Optimize Keywords with Your Stats

Everyone's looking for keyword suggestions to optimize on. There are plenty of tools out there but one of my favorite's is my sites own keyword statistics! Now I'm sure you've already optimized your top keywords and search phrases, well done. But I like to go towards the bottom of my list of search phrase referrals for juicy keyword phrases that are only giving a few referrals. They are really not doing much for me...but maybe they could be. You can use Pagedrill Keyword Statistics Script to track how different keyword phrases are performing on different pages on your site. Use a search engine keyword ranking tool to find out the web page and search engine giving you the referrals for a particular search phrase and what your ranking is for that phrase. It probably won't be great but if you are ranking say, 30 to 70 on a search engine for a phrase, you may on the cusp of BIG traffic for that keyword. You only need to do a little SEO to get that search phrase up to within 20 to really increase traffic. The point is that you may have some keyword phrases that are on the verge of really delivering, you just have to find them and give them the extra attention they need. Remember, optimize those pages where some keywords are on the cusp of giving big traffic!

How to Find Targeted Keywords

You may be 1 of 4 web site owners that has not optimized your site with keywords for ranking in the search engines. You say you have inserted keywords in your site, but are they targeted keywords? If not, here's how. What is a Keyword?
These are words or phrases which people would insert in a search engine to look for information contained in your site. The search engine spiders take those words and display the best sites that relate to that information. Depending on the popularity of the word, you may have a million or more web sites to choose from.
Ideally your web site should appear in the top 20-30 sites displayed, to be included in the persons search. This would result in a continuous stream of visitors.
Targeting the Best Keywords
If your keywords are not tightly targeted to your site, you
will dim your chances of being highly ranked in the search engines. Here’s what to do:
Go to the overture suggestion tool or wordtacker.com and insert a word or phrase that one would search on for information on your site.

Create a table (in MS Excel or MS Word) with 4 columns. Insert 200-300 words or phrases in the first
column from the results of your suggestion tool.

Use the second column to record the popularity of each word beside each word in the first column.

The third column is to determine the competing sites for the words you have listed above. Do a search on a few of the most popular search engines (is Yahoo.com, Google.com) for the words or phrases you have listed above. (i.e. if you do a search
on Google.com for “Internet Marketing”, your reply will
be: “Results 1 - 10 of about 3,280,000”). Enter this number in the third column for each searched word to determine its popularity. In the fourth column you can enter the results of the other 3
columns. Mark the words in this column that have a high number of searches but have low competition. Utilize these keywords or phrases in your site, so you won’t have to compete with the
millions of other web pages.

Now you have a list of targeted keywords or phrases that you can incorporate in your web site. Not all search engines use keywords to rank your site, however you have increase your chances for those that do. Doing keyword research can lead to a continuous flow of visitors to your site, and ultimately more sales.

Get Google Visitors with Overlooked Keywords

Did you know that you can dramatically increase the number of visitors that come to your site on a daily basis from Google? And it's not constantly improving your position in Google search engine result pages(SERPs) for your competitive keywords which can take some time after working on your search engine marketing campaigns. I take this example from Google because I've experienced it some time back now. Apart concentrating on getting and maintaining a top 10 ranking in Google, there are lots of easy traffic sources that you haven't exploited yet. We are still talking about search engine traffic here. What's that strategy you ask? The answer might surprise you but it's a technique that works and is pretty legitimate. It's not creating stand alone or doorway pages with practically no content, overly optimized with keywords and a link back to the homepage. Doorway pages work but only if you know how to do it well. And this article will talk a bit about this topic as well.

The strategy is to search for overlooked keyword phrases which are not too competitive and create effective doorway pages related to these keyword phrases. These pages can be promoting a product for instance.

Just by adding a few effective doorway pages, I managed to make 9 sales in just a few short weeks and earned $364.59.

Imagine you come up with several keyword phrases that generate a few monthly searches, you now have several pages. So each page targeting a specific keyword phrase is worth traffic and not any type of traffic but it will be targeted.

So if you have one page which brings you only 1 visitor per day and you have 50 pages, you can easily receive 50 visitors per day for free. You see the potential now.

Keywords that have about 1000 searches on Yahoo! Search Marketing Solutions previously known as Overture at http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion are valuable keywords with lower competition.

If you are using Wordtracker at http://www.wordtracker.com, a keyword with only 10 searches per day can get you a good ranking and bring you traffic.

If you have already a website which is generating traffic, you can dramatically increase your numbers, simply by adding relevant doorway pages optimized with a specific keyword. These pages have content and have your optimized navigation menu on it with their specific keyword phrases. These pages are just an entry to your site nothing more nothing less.

They should not be overly optimized with keywords but they must have some optimized content which is readable by your visitors and friendly for the search engines as well.

If you have a good website which is crawled by Google's robot called "Googlebot" often, your new pages will get spidered and indexed fast and will start bringing you small loads of targeted traffic.

But be careful when adding pages, don't go in a frenzy with this and add hundreds or even thousands of pages all of a sudden. For eg if your site has 50 pages already indexed in Google and ranking well and you add 100 new pages at once, your indexed pages might suffer a temporary drop in rankings. The key here is to add pages on a regular basis say 1 or 2 pages daily until you reach the total number of pages to be added.

Why not capitalize on this free source of traffic? The key is to research your keywords well first, work on your content and create these pages afterwards.

Your website will grow bigger and bigger with time and it will attract loads of targeted traffic from multiple keyword phrases.
